Why Preserve? A Conversation About our Future

Since the inception of Suffolk County’s Farmland Preservation Program in the mid-1970s, over 12,000 acres of farmland have been preserved by the County. Nearly 4,000 acres are in Southold alone, along with over 1,200 pre-1900 historic structures, 7 historic museums and two historic districts. With development pressures stronger than ever, how can we continue to preserve and sustain the rural economy and character of our region? Come to listen and add your voice in the discussion. Speakers include: Peconic Land Trust President John v.H. Halsey, and local architect James Garretson, of the Southold Historical Preservation Commission, with vintner Louisa Hargrave moderating.

Location: Peconic Landing Auditorium, 1500 Brecknock Road, Greenport
Cost: Free
