Living Green

Peconic Landing members and employees are united in our commitment to conservation and preservation…

Our Environmental Services team meets regularly to explore environmentally sustainable maintenance practices, and their efforts are ever changing. From investigating solar technology to wind-energy, we are always exploring innovative ways to be green.

Most recently, the organization received a platinum-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design [LEED] certification for our newest apartment building. To receive the certification, the community installed low-flow fixtures and shower heads, which equate to a 20 percent reduction in water usage.

In addition, the organization received a “green building” certification for construction of the Community Center, and was awarded a ride-share grant of $28,000 resulting in a Long Island Transportation Award for Green Practices.

Other commitments to improving water quality and conservation include the use of green cleaners and detergents and limiting pesticide and fertilizer use. We have also welcomed a flock of guinea hens and chickens to our campus to help manage insects.

Peconic Landing’s members are committed to acting as catalysts for environmental awareness and change. Key stewards encourage members to make a difference for the environment. For example, a club initiative encouraging members to switch to low-flow showerheads resulted in 200 converted showerheads and an energy savings of 40 percent.
