10. Find home styles and features for every taste
Peconic Landing’s waterside campus is home to 187 apartments, 6 patio homes and 103 cottages for independent living. It is one of the few retirement communities in New York State to offer cottage homes, giving the campus a true neighborhood feel. Each residence features a fully equipped kitchen, wood cabinetry, wall-to-wall carpeting, large walk-in closets, storage space, options like sunrooms and fireplaces, and garage or garage parking options.
In addition to a view of the Long Island Sound, member might have a golf course or vineyard view. “We love our cottage and our beautiful view of the golf course. We love gardening and walking down to the water for sunsets,” explained long-time members Pat and Denis B.
11. Superior dining options go beyond the ordinary every day
Inspired cuisine and engaging conversation make for a superior dining experience – just ask any Peconic Landing member. Especially with both formal and casual dining venues right on campus. The water view Restaurant has five dining rooms overlooking the Long Island Sound where members can enjoy lunch and dinner daily and brunch on Sundays.
And The Bistro dining menu offers fresh soups, salads and sandwiches made to order by day, and a chef’s action station with buffet items by night. This popular meeting place also hosts a complimentary continental breakfast each morning, with a coffee and juice bar available all day. Both offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Executive Chef De Cuisine Jean-Paul Hascoat has earned numerous awards for his menus and the entire culinary team takes every opportunity to impress the members! “I love Chef J.P.’s fine cooking, especially when he’s using mushrooms, or Ellen’s cooking in the Bistro, where she uses fresh fish from Southold Fish Market,” gushed Louisa H.
12. Standard services make daily living easy
Regular home maintenance is included in members’ monthly fee. No more checking the gutters or calling repairmen! “We don’t have to find a contractor for each problem or worry about shoveling snow, and we love the consolidation of our bills,” explained members Dolores and Bob P.
If a member would like a ride to the theater, grocery store or doctor’s appointment, they are transported in the complementary Peconic Landing shuttle. Trips can be scheduled or there is a calendar of regular outings members can sign up for as well.
Security and emergency-response systems are also included in Peconic Landing’s services. There is a state-of-the-art call-button system that provides members with the ability to get assistance from anywhere on campus, indoors or out, at any time. Emergency response professionals provide round-the-clock coverage, from a qualified security team to certified staff Emergency Medical Technicians
13. Fewer chores mean more time for passions
Because so many time-consuming household tasks are managed by the community (weekly housekeeping, annual heavy cleaning, lawn care and snow removal), Peconic Landing members are able to devote more time to their hobbies and pursue additional learning opportunities. There are many classes and clubs at the community as well as on the East End in general.
“I was always the working stiff. Coming here gave me the resources to tap into other aspects of my life,” said Sara G., Peconic Landing member. “We have a vintage sailboat, I’m involved in the finance committee and the art club, and I’ve taken up golf!”
